Indie Publishing Initial Consultation $50
This one hour session will get you started on your indie publishing journey! We’ll discuss your book, genre, categories, keywords, blurb, publishing platforms, social media presence and launch strategy. $40/hour for each additional hour needed.
Content / Developmental Editing
Starting at $.007 per word. Sample edit of 2000 words provided free of charge. We development/content edit genres with which we are most experienced: romance and women’s fiction. Author will receive full read-through with comments plus editorial letter with notes on character development, voice, readability, consistency and plot arc.
Copy/Line Editing
Starting at $.006 per word. Sample edit of 2000 words provided free of charge. This level of editing provides corrections to style/grammatical/spelling/usage errors as well as flow issues. Basic feedback about character development, plot structure and consistency are also provided, but not at the level of a content/developmental edit.
Proofreading
Proofreading starts at $.004 per word. In a proofread, only errors are corrected (spelling, punctuation, usage and grammar). No suggestions are made for better sentence flow and no feedback is given about characters/plot/consistency. Proofreading is recommended ONLY after a copy edit has been performed by myself or another editor.
Please note: editor will verify that manuscript meets our criteria for a proofread prior to invoicing. In order to qualify, there must be fewer than 3 errors found per page (250 words).
Deluxe Editing Packages
We offer two deluxe packages that combine services.
Content/Copy Edit
We’ll start with a full content/developmental edit. After you have implemented the revisions, we’ll do a copy/line edit. This two-phase service starts at $.01/word.
Copy Edit/Proofread
We’ll start with a copy/line edit of your manuscript. After you’ve implemented the edits, we’ll do a proofread to make sure your book is sparkling! This two-phase service starts at $.008/word.
Social Media Management
I have over 10 years of experience managing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and blogs for corporate clients, as well as four years managing my own author social media presence. I will work with you to come up with a custom package depending on your needs, starting as little as $100/month. I also have a great deal of experience with Facebook ads and will be happy to set up ads for clients provided they have an ad account and grant me access.
Terms and Conditions
Consultation fees are due in advance. Social media management fees are due by the first of the month for each month contracted. For editing projects, we require a $50 deposit to hold your spot. The first payment of 50% minus deposit will be due upon starting the project, with the balance due upon return of the completed manuscript. Other terms may be negotiated. Please let us know what your needs are.
We also have Retainer Agreements available, in which a monthly fee is invoiced based upon a predicted average of words edited each month. This arrangement typically involves a discount of 10-15% and is available to established clients.
As an author myself, I know how important it is to get your manuscript back from your editor in a timely fashion. We don’t take months to complete a project. Our average time to complete an edit is 14-17 days (for a full 80K word novel.) The deadline we discuss with you at the time of booking is guaranteed, or you’ll receive 10% or $50.00 off your service, whichever is less.
For editing, the industry standard is 95% accuracy. If you find our work does not align with this standard, please contact us immediately so we can make things right. It is common for some errors to remain after a copy edit, and sometimes the author introduces new errors while fixing the ones recommended by the editor. That is why we always recommend a final proofread as the very last step before publication.
